SUMMARY:SEVEN ROTTERDAMS ***ENCORE SHOWING (NEW DATE)*** Presented by Captain Albert Schoonderbeek
DESCRIPTION:For most of its history Holland America Line has had a ship with the name Rotterdam in its fleet. As a result they are now up to number seven. The ships clearly show the evolution that passenger ship design has made during the last 150 years. During his informative and entertaining program\, Captain Albert Schoonderbeek\, current fleet master of Holland America Line\, showed us how the seven Rotterdams of “The Spotless Fleet” evolved from emigrant carriers into showcases of the latest ideas in cruise travel. \n(Photo: Stuart Gewirtzman)

SUMMARY:SHIPS OF SPLENDOR: 100 YEARS OF OCEAN LINERS Presented by Bill Miller
DESCRIPTION:Ocean liners – they were floating palaces\, castles of the sea\, ocean-going resorts. Noted maritime author and lecturer Bill Miller has recently written an all-color book about them titled Ships of Splendor. His featured passenger ships range from the likes of the MAURETANIA and MAJESTIC a century ago\, in the 1920s\, to the age of the SS UNITED STATES and QE2 in the 1950s and ’60s. \nAt our April membership meeting Bill presented something of a grand review\, commenting on some of the more notable ships. In photos from the book\, they “sailed by” in revived voyages. \n(Above photo – New York’s Luxury Liner Row seen in March 1937 — from the left:  EUROPA\, REX\, NORMANDIE\, GEORGIC AND BERENGARIA.
